Galleries : Ink Originals : The Strays

The stray cats like to lounge on the wall beside my lawn. They particularly like to congregate by the broken down garden statue of an angel. She was left there by the previous owner of the house. An arm has broken off, as well as on of the outstretched wings. At night when I turn on the garden lanterns, I'll see lithe feline shapes saunter up to the angel, and their shadows enact a strange tableaux. I know they are simply scent marking her as they rub their cheeks against her one intact arm, but in the shifting illumination of multiple lanterns and the moon, it is as if she moves and gently marks them with a possessive trailing of her fingertips across the calico heads, and then the cats settle to lie quiescent at her feet.
